Dandy's ISWS Champion certificate has arrived.
July 23 - 2013
Within 2 months of finishing for his title,I found Dandy's gorgeous certificate in the mailbox.
It looks great and even posh with the lovely gold seal added, I guess I'll have to frame it and hang it next to the kennel certificate ;-)
Many thanks to Paul Sanders (Allagante Silkens) for keeping track of all Ch.points and Iola Stetson for printing and sending it off. Thanks to being well "wrapped" it arrived in mint condition!
Brocade's X-ray
June 21 - 2013
It is supposed to be the longest day, and start of the summer but the overcast sky keeps the light away and the rain + wind definitely feel like autumn.....
Good part is that the temps have dropped considerably, making life much better for Brocade and Dutchie!
Today we had the X-ray taken and together with the vet we counted 7 little skulls. He said that would be it, no more surprises as all puppies were visible.
At least Brocade is not following her cousin Sapphire, who had 11 in her 1st litter.... 7 is a nice, manageable amount and...they all have families waiting for them!
The first of Dandy's children has a title!
June 10 - 2013
Tanner's Cashira, living with Klará in the Czech republic, went to a weekend of shows in Serbia where she got ex.1 in Youth class 2x which got her the title of Serbian Youth Champion, hurray!
She's the dark brindle girl, in front of her is Jaina Silkendream who did excellent too, adding the title of Serbian Champion to her Slovakian Championship.
This too is a first, first Slovakian Ch., first Serbian Ch. and....first Silken Windhound with 2 European titles so go Team Silken, GO!
Many thanks to Klára for her care and commitment!
Dandy's electronic ISWS Champion certificate arrived
June 6 - 2013
The day it was 20 years ago I brought home my black Imperial Princess Gustopsowaya's Ruselka's Rostania, I found Dandy's electronic Champion certificate in the mail, YAY!
This means Dandy is the first European Silken Windhound finished by his breeder, with single points from CAC as well as CACIB shows in Hungary and Slovenia.
He is also the very first Silken with a European title (Slovenian Ch.) as well as an American one (ISWS Ch.)
So a BIG "Thank you!" to judge Helena Arh, for making this dream come true!
Puppies are on their way!
May 27 - 2013
After the exitement of Dandy's ISWS title we went to the clinic today to have Brocade ultra sounded. Well, where the vet had to search a little to find Yasera's 5 "blobs", this time, as soon as the vet touched Brocade's belly, we saw the first "blob" , she's most definitely pregnant!
All in all we saw some 7 "blobs", no wonder as Brocade is one of 8, her mom's next litter were 10 puppies and her cousin Sapphire had 11 in her first litter.....
But I do hope it's not that many, even though requests from all over Europe find their way into my mailbox....
Dandy finished his ISWS Championship, from BBE class!!
May 25 - 2013
I had asked if Brocade could travel in the car and, as the vet had no objections, I entered Dandy, Yasera, Brocade & Aponi in the HessenWinner Show.
With hopefully puppies on their way (we do think so, she has really changed since the matings) there is no vacation this summer so a little trip into Germany was very welcome. So nice to see everybody again, also the judge, Helena, and somebody interested in a puppy would come from Lyon.
Lots of reasons to go so we hooked on the caravan and off we were, to Frankfurt!
With entries from Germany, the UK, Holland, Austria and visitors from Switzerland & France, new imports to admire and old friends to meet, we had a great show day.
Of course, best part was Dandy going Winner's Dog, for that all important Specialty win! He had already accumulated 12 points on CAC & CACIB shows in Hungary & Slovenia but without Specialty win, no title... later Helena chose Dandy over ISWS Ch. River but that was the icing on the cake.
Bitch competition was fierce but I was VERY pleased that Dandy's 1/2 sister Firesmoke Spirit of Endevor got Winner's Bitch, and also finished her ISWS Ch.ship. In the end she went BISS, quite deservedly as she was the better Silken of the 2.

April 29 - 2013
Lots has happened these past weeks.
It all started with miz Dina coming into season, April 8th. To have all tests performed that I had in mind, we went south to pick her up and bring her home with us. According the tests, Dina's progesterone levels slowly rose, so no hurry (or so we thought) Wednesday the 17th miz Yasera was spayed, something already arranged before we knew Dina would be in heat. All went well and 2 days later I went North to visit Christine where Serrat lives (600km one way). Lucky for me Sylphia could come along and we had a most enjoyable ride, never stopped talking! ;-)
Unfortunately our timing turned out to be off (or was it Dina?) because neither Friday nor Saturday the couple had much interest in eachother :-(
Cate was home alone with 6 dogs, Yasera freshly operated, Brocade also in heat, then Yasera started having diarrhea, Aponi following so, with no mating to happen, I decided to return home, quite disappointed.....
Yasera was also given her dayly ALA post-op and her wounds (she had a lump on her throat which had to be removed as well) healed equally quick, again the vet was amazed he could hardly see the scar when taking out the stitches.....
But with many people waiting for a puppy, I thought it best to breed Brocade now, in stead of next year. So the whole circus started anew, progesterone levels tested, starting the diary. Unfortunately Dandy, the father-to-be, also had diarrhea (one day) followed by vomiting blood (next day) which cost him stamina. Thus, when the progesterone levels yesterday dictated a mating, I brought Dandy along to the clinic and had Brocade inseminated, just to be sure I'd not miss the 2nd opportunity for a litter this year. It was not exactly what I had in mind as I do prefer a natural mating, but she is 4 already... The insemination went very well so that gave hope.
As Brocade and Dandy behaved like being very much in love (Brocade never even looked @ Paladin!), with Brocade even trying to open Dandy's crate, I thought I'd better let them play a bit this morning. Brocade was willing but also skittish and just when I thought I'd better separate them, they had a tie! It lasted some 20 minutes so we had that natural mating as well, hurray!

March 6 - 2013
As I like to do something with the dogs, I thought it a good idea to start Aponi on Fly-ball classes, he's the only one with a bit of interest in the ball.
But Fly-ball is a LOT less easy than I had thought, we start learning backwards!
First all dogs (5 in our group, a Toller, a Boxer, a Beagle and a Dachshund), were taken to the last of the 4 hurdles, had to wait there till the instructor finished counting 3, 2, 1 and we said GO! Then the instructor would throw a ball the dog could chase.
Now that was to Aponi's taste! After a few tries we went to the other side where we found the BOX. That is more difficult, the dog has to press a lever which releases the ball. The dog is supposed to catch it ( not yet of course). Aponi had no idea what we wanted him to do so the instructor released the ball himself and Aponi is at least showing interest in it! ;-)
February 1 - 2013
Took Aponi in to have the stitches removed (all in all there was 1 left ;-) ) and the vet was amazed at the speed at which the wound had healed. after 10 days even the scar was hardly visible anymore... Unfortunately the vet is not open to "alternatives" so he was sceptic when I told him I have given Aponi 1 ALA 50mg tablet a day (Alpha Lipoic Acid, a powerful anti oxydant, thus boosting his immune system). But after the ALA helped Paladin heal the nasty bite wound near his anus, without it even being red, I always have a pot near hand.....
Aponi is neutered
January 25-2013
With 2 intact bitches in the house and a male with a faulty heart rhythm, something had to be done, so the 22nd I took Aponi in for neutering.
We were rather nervous as we had been told that his extra heart beats might get worse when in repose, and what more than under anaesthesia? But Aponi went trough with flying colours, was of course very sorry for himself but did not take more that 48 hours to be himself again.
The stitches were not to his liking so he had to wear the hated lampshade but he adapted real fast to the silly thing, can even turn around in his crate...
The kickbike has arrived!
January 20 - 2013
After using Elsbeth's kickbike during our visits, I was convinced it was the best means to get Dutchie, Dandy and Yasera more excercise so, with a little extra "end-of-the-year" money, I found the bike on-line and ordered it.
Today a HUGE cardboard box was delivered and I could start assembling the thing.
It took a while but between the 2 of us we managed to put it together.
All I need now is the snow to disappear so we can start!
A very happy New Year everybody!

Due to a sudden being ill of dad, the day we had planned to return home, we both stayed on till Dec.30, then Cate had to return to work, I could stay in Almelo some more days, until more help and support for dad could be organised. ......
Today would have been miz Jasmyn's B-day, cannot believe it would have been her 9th already!

September 24 - 2012
The 23rd Aponi too finished for the SLO Ch.ship, after the show we picked up the caravan and drove to Podnart, to visit Helena. This meant another night along the train tracks but also a most pleasant dinner @ the lovely Podnart restaurant, in good company: Helena, Rolf, Elvira, Cate and I.
Next day we had to return home, with a stop-over to see another of Dandy's puppies: Tanner's Colonel, aka Zalando.
He too was rather overwhelmed by the amount of visiting relatives...
Vicky is very good with the camera and I'm happy with this photo, as well as the ones of each dog. Those can be found (soon) on their individual pages..

Not a real problem but the neighbours sure noticed!

August 27 - 2012.
The flights are booked, September 17th little Shirkhan will fly to Norway and be part of Lisbeth's pack. Will order him a Large flight crate as he is already outgrowing the Intermediate one I have here....
Also today I received the magazines I was promised when I co-operated with the editor for an article on the Silken Windhound. It is one of the bigger dog magazines in Holland (Hondenmanieren) and we got 4 pages! All in all it does look nice, with a handful of photos (most are from Joyce Chin, USA) so I hope it will trigger more interest in the breed...

Shirkhan is 4 months old today and to celebrate that I bought a new collar, he really has outgrown the puppy collar he came with!
Now he looks quite dashing in the dark brown leather collar with a matching leash we won in DogCity!
Unfortunately the weather was not co-operating so no photo yet of His Royal Cuteness....

August 2012.
Our little man is growing fast and has learned a lot: when he came I had to lift him up on the couch, now he easily jumps up and off when running around, also discovered it to be a very comfy napping spot! ;-) From time to time he starts nagging dad, "mouth fighting" till Dandy has had enough and takes his leave. By now Shirkhan has rode the bus, walked on the market, been to shops. He has visited our dad (@ the other side of the country) twice and completely charmed his neighbour ;-) He enjoys the walks with the whole pack, though 1/2 an hour is still too much for him and he gets carried part of the way, just like when we take him to the beach. First times I kept him on leash but lately he is set free, with a short leash attached to his harness. He knows about the beach and the surf so he can safely chase the others and have a really good romp. In spite of Brocade's good example, he still isn't into rough and tumble in the water but he's no longer scared of the waves.....
Shirkhan is 3 months old.
August 3 - 2012.
In the 25 days he is with us he has grown considerably and he devides his time between sleeping and roughhousing with his relatives.
Lucky for us, he does have calm moments in which we can snap a portrait and then he shows he's still no more than a wee puppy....

Much to my surprise, miz Destiny decided to come in season now, about 3 months before her expected time! maybe Brocade still had enough feromones to entice Destiny to follow her, after all, the 2 shared the X-pen 2 weeks ago in DogCity.... Anyway, to have Destiny properly tested I decided to bring her north. So Cate managed to change her shift in order to be free and with all dogs we went south., first picking up Destiny, then visit friends. But when I put the little pants on miz Destiny, she already put her tail to the side...she was almost ready to mate! As I HAVE to work tomorrow night, I can leave no sooner than Tuesday for Germany to mate her, much too late :-( ...<sigh>.... All I could do was ask Marjan to come and collect her, we will try again next season, somewhere March - May '13.....

Dandy's son Shirkhan is staying with us.
July 2012
Joachim had brought all puppies to DogCity as several were collected there by their new owners. On Saturday Vicky took Colonel Hathi home and on Sunday first Gabriele went to Austria with Shanti, later Klara took Rama with her to the Czech Republic. Henriette has to wait for Baghira but has been caught smooching with the little one ;-). Since Shirkhan has to wait for the rabies vaccination before he's allowed into Norway, we thought he could do so with us, and get to know about city life, the beach and the sea, strange dogs & people. Lisbeth agreed to this plan and so we returned home with 7 dogs. It does take a bit of getting used to, puppy wee all over the place, early rising, needle sharp teeth which he likes to use! But also endless amounts of photos, watching how he gets used to different things, explores his new world. He is as big a smoocher as his dad, always willing to be petted. At first he was ignored by the others but after a week or 2 first Dandy started to play with him, soon followed by Aponi and Brocade. I am amazed at what those boys allow the little one to do, the biting, the pulling, even pircing with those sharp puppy teeth! From time to time I have to intervene, when he acts as bunny for all 3....sturdy little dog or not!

Another great show weekend in DogCity.
July 7 & 8 - 2012
With 32 entries from the UK, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic & Switzerland and 2 Swedish judges it promised to be another memorable show weekend. Unfortunately there were 4 absentees but still, the 28 present did not make choosing BISS and BOSS an easy task for the judges! Poor Dandy was limping on Saturday, otherwise, after winning his bred-by class, he'd have had his 3rd reserve.... Miz Brocade won her open class, Destiny was 5th, miz Yasera won her veteran class and.....kept running till she was awarded the reserve! On Sunday Dandy did win the bred-by class again but no more, Destiny was 3rd in open, Brocade 4th and Yasera again BOSS veteran. Icing on the cake was the BISS Breeder Group!

Time flies, Dandy's babies are 3 weeks old today and, with their eyes open, they have left the larvae stadium behind them and look like little dogs.

April 27 - 2012
The 2 boys are gold-brindles, as is 1 of the girls. The other 3 are the dark ones though the puppy under Tanner's chin seems to be a deluted tri-color!
Granny Yasera has 2 tri-color brothers so that is possibly the reason of this for Silkens rare pattern.
The puppies are very active!
Visit to the Keukenhof.
April 26 - 2012
While Tanner was working hard to deliver her puppies, we took our pack to the Keukenhof. We had been there in 2009 and wanted new photos with Brocade and Aponi as well. We both love to walk and look at flowers so a visit to this biggest Spring flower park is always a great pleasure. In addition to millions of flowers there are usually hundreds of other people enjoying the colourful display of bulb flowers. You'd think that, when you come all the way from Japan, Korea, Vietnam or Brazil, you'd want to make the most of all those flowers, right? WRONG! Biggest attraction for many were our dogs! Soooo many people wanted to take photos of them that time and again I handed over 5 leashes so the people could hold them for the photo they'd be taking home. Really, I should have charged €1,- per photo, it would have saved me a lot on dog food! ;-)

Dandy's puppies are born!
April 26 - 2012
Today Tanner has whelped 6 bouncy puppies, 4 girls and 2 boys in a variety of colours from gold-brindle to almost black. Mom and pups are doing very well.

Dandy will be a father for the first time!
April 17 - 2012
Though not expected anymore, it turns out the visit of Tanner (Gryffyn's Aeyrie Love over Gold) on Feb.23 has not been without result, puppies are awaited by April 25!! At first Tanner gave no indication of being pregnant but recently there were puppies to be felt so Dandy will be competing in Progeny class next year in DogCity!

Destiny has passed her pre-breeding tests.
March 30 - 2012
Today miz Destiny went for her heart and eye tests and she passed both with flying colours. Now I can arrange for her DNA parentage testing and she's ready to be bred on her next season. As she usually has an interval of 10 months, and her last season was in December, I expect her next to be in October which would mean a Christmas litter, YAY!

Today I received the results of the DNA tests I had sent in for Dandy and Brocade. Now they are ready for breeding, though I plan their litter somewhere next year. But Dandy has mated Gryffyn's Aeyrie Love over Gold the 23rd and for that we did need the DNA parentage to be done!
All we can do now is wait if Tanner will conceive....

The new car has arrived
Jan.27 - 2012
Today, on Yasera's 10th B-day, the new car was delivered and I picked it up at the garage. It is again a VW Caddy Maxi but sunny yellow in stead of silver metallic. It is a very nice car and it has almost everything the old one had, just miss the 6th gear :-(. But it is wonderful to have enough space again, transporting 6 dogs in a station car is a bit difficult..... Now I can start collecting the necessary items again, a collabsible crate, blankies, X-pen, VariKennel..... Just a few days ago the old car was found back and I hoped they had left things in the back but no, just 2 blankies and the mattress were left behind, for the rest it was stripped completely, even the radio was gone! Of course I could not cancel the new car anymore so with deep regret I bade the grey car fare well, hoping his next owner would be more lucky in keeping him...

Happy New Year!!
Jan.1 - 2012
A very happy New Year everybody! Hope it will continue better for us than the end of 2011....as on Oct.30 our car was stolen! It was the kennel-on-wheels with LOTS of stuff in it and everything was gone, grrrrr! Got a rental car for 3 weeks, hired it for another 2 but, as it was waayy too expensive, I could borrow an old car from a friend. Since the insurance has paid back what I spent on the car (NOT the contents), we ordered a new one, which will be delivered later this month....

Rather neat to see my homebred Dandy first in line ;-)

Dutch Borzoi Club Funcoursing
September 25 - 2011
Today we enjoyed a gorgeous day outside as we participated in the annual Funcoursing of the NBC. As usual there were many hounds gathered to chase the plastic bunny and though not all were convinced it was worth doing, we had some great courses to admire. Dutchie, having lost a lot of his stamina due to the TIA's of this past year, did run a short stretch but gave up before the 3rd turn. Oh well, he had his part of the fun and it was obviously enough. Paladin was in great condition, flying over the field, cutting every possible corner and showing great speed. I had hoped to finsh Brocade's CIC but the lil'miss wasn't in the right mood. She showed several short bursts of (really great) speed but did not continue, preferred to build her own party... Still, she made such an impression on the lure operator that he awarded her the trophy for most promising hound..of 40 entries or so... Aponi had a ball as usual but as it was only his 3rd time, I allowed him just 3 turns after which he claimed the lure as his own ;-) First time entered was Nachi, a 1-yr old Silkengirl, but she went round like a seasoned lure courser, absolutely wonderful! She showed great speed and dedication so I thought that trophy would be much better off with her...

Moving house
September 12 - 2011
On August 30 we relocated to a bigger house, now Dutchie has his very own bedroom to retire in and with a much bigger living room there is enough place to play and run around, much to Aponi's delight ;-). Unfortunately we were without Internet connection till today but from now on we are back on track.

First Silkens to get CACs in Hungary
July 2 & 3 - 2011
At the Club show of the Hungarian Agár Klub, July 2, my 4 Silken Windhounds received their first CACs from USA judge David Miller. Kristull Yasera went BOB, thus adding the titles HAK Vet.Winner & Winner - 2011 to her name, Aponi went BOS and also got the additional title HAK Winner-2011.
We were allowed in the big ring 2 times, first Yasera went for BIS Veteran competition where got 2nd place (OK of 2 but still..), later we participated in BIS competition.
July 3, the Specialty Show, they were judged by dr. Miklos Levente who gave CAC + BOB to Dandy. Aponi and Yasera also got their 2nd CAC. Miz Brocade does not like this judge and refused to show herself. He is not particulary impressed by her either so she got her 3rd Very Good from him.....
I took Dandy and Yasera in for BIS Brace competiotion and they ended 2nd of the 3 braces present. Later Dandy and I were back for BIS but we did not make the cut this time eiter. BUT the Silkens have been noticed, we had many people stop by, take pics and pet them so the weekend was a success!

Silken Windhounds DM free!!
June 17 - 2011
With the second batch of Silken DM tests coming back clear, over 60 have been tested and NOT A SINGLE CARRIER IS FOUND!!!!!!!!! WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!
As these samples were taken from descendants representing all Borzoi lines, we can safely assume it is not present in the breed.
Thanks to Francie's hard negotiating and financial support of the ISWS the base line has been established, proving further testing is up to the individual owner, but not necessary for breeding, YAY!
