Carina of Snow von Nizjnjaja aka "Vyuga",  Oct.1 - 1992 /  Aug.3 - 1995

Carina was my first, indeed the fulfillment of a long, long dream. Initially I followed another bitch (who later turned out to be a distant cousin) but when the couple divorced, breeding plans disappeared. I contacted Gré Roos (Gustopsowaya Borzoi) to get to know more about the breed. She had 7 at that time so more than enough chances to go for walks, accompany her and the 'zoi to nearby shows and in general soaking up info. Gré knew a lot, had many, many books, pedigrees, photos to share so I spent lots of time at her house. When her US import mated the bitch of a friend, I could choose one of the puppies and I fell for Carina. She was 9 weeks when we took her home and not one moment did she panic. Of course I had visited her several times so she knew my voice and smell but still, she was very cool about everything.

Since digital photography did not exist during Carina's life, all photos are copies of original printed ones, which is why the quality isn't what we are used to these days...

Carina @ 9 weeks, she did have a pair of ears to grow into! Before she came I had bought and read quite a few books about Borzoi but having a lively puppy in the house was something different! As soon as she was allowed access to the doggie park, we accompanied Gré when she took her dogs out so Carina had other Borzoi to run with...

Carina as well as Rostania LOVED children, always willing to be petted or go for a walk. These 2 young ladies also enjoyed the dog's company during the Sunday walks.

Vilhelmsborg, Denmark, June 1995. At this big sighthound show Carina was BOB, later to go on to reserve BISS, much to our delight! BOS was Rostania's cousin Gustopsowaya's Perfect Playboy, who finished for his Danish title that day....
All in all Carina did do well on shows, even though she did not always want to move.....

We were just done showing that summer, she was blowing coat and I intended to wait till she had it back to continue. But it was not to be, August 3, I returned home from shopping and found her dead in the hallway... autopsy revealed all signs of a cardiac arrest, just like her 1/2 sister 3 years earlier...
