Gustopsowaya's Ruselka's Rostania aka "Chorniy", March 11 - 1993 / Dec.12 - 2005
Rostania came as company for Carina and the 2 were great friends from the first time they met. Gré lived nearby so the 2 of us often visited, once the puppies were old enough, Carina played with them so Rostania already knew us before she relocated, D-Day 1993.
@ 7 weeks her bite popped and never corrected so she ended up with a severely undershot bite. She was a BIG smiler too, showing that bite in all it's glory.....
Poor Rostania was horribly carsick, until we went on holiday and she had to endure long car rides. Much to our surprise, and delight, upon coming home, the car sickness was over! Ever since that day she was the first to hop into the car as she LOVED going places.
First with Carina, later with Vjertilo she travelled Europe from Vilhelmsborg (Denmark) in the North to Ljubljana (Slovenia) in the South and from Kijkduin (Holland) in the West to Selb (Germany) on the Czech border and she loved every minute of it. At first she was a picky eater (though stealing anything that took her fancy!) but once spayed she ate everything. The summer of 2005 she started peeing blood and as treatment did not help, an ultra sound showed she had a bladder tumor. With help of extra Vit.C and Rimadyl she had a few more good months, even came with us to Slovenia in September where she accompanied us on walks of over an hour... Finally she lost the battle and we had to let her go... The last of Ruselka's litter.
Rostania was no show dog but a great ambassador for the breed, though a few times she really behaved like Her Imperial Highness.....

Rostania as a wee puppy, she was an absolute sweetheart..
September 1993, she's 6 months old, a leggy Borzoi Princess
Family portrait, left to right: Rostania with brother Gustopsowaya's King's Komarno and sisters Ruselka's Rameska & Ruselka's Rozova
After Carina's tragic death, first sister Rozova came to keep Rostania company. During her stay with us, Rozova was mated and she remained with us till Valentine's day 1996. Twelve days later she had her litter and from the 6 puppies black Vjertilo came to fill the void Carina had left. At first Rostania did not like that nephew at all but after a sincere correction she accepted him and they too were best buddies. Rostania taught Vjertilo about life in the city, he simply copied her behaviour. Both were fond of children, Rostania ofter dragged me over to the playground of the Kindergarten to enjoy all the little hands petting her.....
In 2004 I added Boyzoi Dutchie & Silkengirl Jasmyn to the pack and Rostania found herself top bitch! This showed by less and less smiling, thus proving it is a submissive action....
Still, all four lived peacefully together, once the ranks were clear: 1- Vjertilo, 2- Rostania, 3- Jasmyn, 4- Dutchie ;-)
Here they are enjoying peace and quiet after the morning walk, Dutchie, Jasmyn, Rostania

June 2005, the day I had her 12 years....little did I know that 7 months later she would be gone....

Dec.2005, Rostania's last photo.
Rostania preferred peace and quiet in her Golden Years. She decided our guest room was the perfect place to spend the day (and night), snoozing on the bed. So I gave her her own bed linen, complete with pillow. Going up and down the stairs kept her rear end in shape, even on her last day she had no trouble getting on the 1st floor.... The bladder tumor was taking up more and more space, and when she did not want to finish her breakfast of cooked chicken, an absolute favourite!, I knew it was time to let her go. And so, 12 years, 6 months and 6 days after I took her home, I held her at the vet's when he gave her the narcotic. Her heart was still very strong and it took 2 doses to stop it.....
