Kansai'z Flying Dutchman, D.O.B. November 14 - 2003, CGC, BJS'04, SLO Champion

Picking up Dutchie was a great adventure, in more than one way. After fostering his dad, Osdov av Fjascho, for 3 weeks in 2002 prior to his flight to the USA, I had fallen in love with his temperament. During one of the early conversations with Cricket (his new owner) I mentioned I'd love to have a son of Osdov. Of course that took some time but in Nov.2003 I received a mail + pic, the "Wagner litter" was born. I preferred a red/white male this time and Dutchie was the only one of the 6. So there he was, I just had to cross the ocean to get him ;-). As the Borzoi Centennial would be held near Cincinnati, April 2004, and not far from where my eldest US penpal lived, plans were quickly made. Cate and I could stay with Julie, together we would visit the show and pick up Dutchie first, and later Silken puppy Jasmyn.
Sunday, April 18 I met Cricket and she handed me the leash with a very cute 5 mos old puppy, finally I had my new baby, after following him all these months in the pics. At first he looked for Cricket but when we returned to Julie's home, he was quite content to stay by my side. He actually bonded so well that, though greeting Cricket full enthousiasm on Wednesday, he followed imediately as soon as I called him. At the Centennial it was possible to do the Canine Good Citizen test and just for fun I entered him. Much to my surprise (and delight) he passed all 10 tests with flying colours so he must be the youngest Borzoi to ever get that title, he was 5 mos, 1 week young.... Word obviously got around because next day I was given a Centennial medal by a lady who was very impressed by this archievement, she wanted me to have a special memento. Needless to say, that medal is one of my prized posessions!

First of many photos, Dutchie was willing to pose, right from the start. Just good to have this picture, when I look at the BIG boy he has become, I can hardly imagine he was this small when I got him...

Dutchie at his first show, 7mos old. Before going into the ring I tried a little ring training but all he would do was jump around.....so I did not expect anything when it was our turn. The Borzoi were 2nd breed for the judge so we had to wait ringside for a while. Much to my surprise Dutchie behaved like a seasoned show dog in the ring, no wonder he won this first class! (ok, of 2 but still..)

We were out camping, a nice place along the river Mosel. Apart from going places by car it was also possible to cross the river by ferry, something very exciting for the puppies. Vjertilo and Rostania had been there before.....

Just like Vjertilo and Rostania, Dutchie too had to wear the antlers for a "seasonal photo" ;-)

Unhappy puppy..

He did not like it a bit, tried to get rid of them almost right away...

Dutchie liked to smooch with miz Donna, our deluted calico cat. Donna was born in a house with a dog so she did not fear them. But with playful puppies around she usually sat on the table, a lot safer for a 17 1/2 yr old pussycat!

An unusual warm day, almost like summer, lured us to the beach. It was absolutely perfect weather for a nice long walk, the dogs loved it! Dutchie even did his imitation of a jumping dolphin ;-) By trotting through the surf he showed off his gait.....

The day after he finished his SLO Ch.title, Dutchie was out lure-coursing. Here he's running with Casablanca Wolkowo, who btw, was a niece of Rostania (her dad Gustopsowaya's Merry Monarch was Rostania's nephew).
Too bad Dutchie was mostly more interested in his running pal than in the lure when I took him for his tests, or he'd have had his licence...
But running alone is just as much fun for him so whenever there's a possibility I let him lure-course  the distance he wants......

Thanks to the good example of Rostania and Vjertilo, Dutchie loves children as well, always willing to come over to be petted.
These 2 made a lovely picture, in the end, the boy got as wet as the dog ;-)

Dutchie was used to live in a group but as first Rostania passed away, then Vjertilo and in April his best buddy Jasmyn, poor Dutchie was a lonely only doggie and he did not like that a bit! Lucky for him I had already planned to pick up Paladin so in the end Dutchie was alone for only 3 weeks.
Almost right from the start the 2 boys were good friends, sharing the car and the mattress, running side by side in the doggie park. Paladin grew like a weed and ended oversized (for a Silken Windhound) but compared to Dutchie he will always be small... ;-)

From time to time I enter Dutchie in a fun match, like here. The outdoor activities are to his liking, more than when it is in a hall or so..

Every year the crocuses on the Voorhout (a street in The Hague) are a riot of colour, the perfect background for yet another family portrait..

Almost incredible, sooo many flowers! But the street is indeed lined with thousands and thousands of white & purple blooms...
