Kristull Brocade at Bon Zoi'z, D.O.B. March 28 - 2009, Slovenian Youth Champion 2010, Slovenian Champion 2012
Brocade has come to add a new female line to the EU gene pool as she is a grand daughter of Jjuno. The moment I found out Encore had a litter, I asked Francie for a female I could incorporate into the breeding plans. Because of the pet embargo some US airlines use I had to go over May 27 and return May 31, otherwise the Varikennel could not accompany me and driving up to Detroit all by myself was a bit too much. So I flew into Cincinnati where I was met by Elise and Ron of Foxglen. The following day Elise drove me to Kentucky where we had the diffucult task to select 2 puppies out of 14 cuties! The day after Francie and I took 4 selected babies to the vet for a health check and after that decided on Brocade and Barndance. With those 2 we returned to Ohio and on Sunday the 3 of us started the long flight back to Holland. While Brocade was to stay with us, Barndance was fostered by my Borzoi friend Juul as he needed to complete the requirements for his PetPassport before moving over to Gill in England. From June '09 till Feb.'10 brother and sister spent lots of time roughhousing, @ Juul's as well as on the beach, both LOVED to race through the shallow waters!
By now Barndance has sired his first litters and is a well known hound on their nearby racetrack, Brocade does nicely in the show ring as well as on the lure coursing field, working towards her CIC (Coursin Instinct Certified).

Barndance & Brocade in Elise's favourite chair, how cute they were @ 9 weeks! They behaved perfectly, sleeping together in a bigger crate in Elise's basement, in company of the resident crew. Probably because they were together, they took the long flight in good stride. In Minneapolis they were taken out of the VariKennel to romp around a little bit in an X-pen, allowing their "servants" to clear away the soiled paper strips we had put in just for that purpose....
From the moment Paladin met his niece Brocade they were best of friends. He put up with her antics, allowed her to bite him almost everywhere and was willing to play tug-of-war with her. He taught her about walking on leash (when following him, she forgot about that "thing" around her neck) and traffic, other dogs and new people. All in all he was a great teacher!
In September 2009, just 5 months old, Brocade was introduced to lure-coursing during the Fun Coursing of the Dutch Borzoi Club. She took to it like a duckling to water, clearly showing her relationship to Paladin ;-). Of course she wasn't allowed "real" coursing but a short stretch with 2 corners was no problem at all for her, she had a ball! Ever since she has been an ardent chaser of the plastic bunny but for her too, the moment it doesn't move anymore, the fun is over and she comes back to me.
This photo was taken the end of September, Brocade & Barndance are 6 months old. That day they were introduced to the beach and it is clearly visible they had a great time there! Our beach has shallow parts as gradually the water gets deeper. Especially at low tide, when the sand banks surface, it is great to race through knee deep water...
By the end of February 2010 Barndance had completed the requirements of his PetPassport and was ready to move over to England to join his new family. Before that, Juul brought him over for a last walk and photo session as it would take some years before the littermates can meet again...They are almost 11 months in this picture.
March 2010, miz Brocade is 1 year old and posing with the yellow crocuses for the first time...
April 2010, here she is on her way to the Slovenian Youth Ch.title, which she attained in May. Since then we have been back to Slovenia and now she needs one more CAC to be the 9th Slovenian Silken Champion. But as she got her first in October, we'll have to wait till Spring next year to go for that last one...
During the long and warm July days beach walks were a great way of cooling down...the hounds chased one another through the surf and going barefoot on the sand does wonders for your feet! ;-) We are lucky that part of the beach is not closed but the dogs aren't allowed to go in the direction of Kijkduin, to save the people on the beach being showered with water, sand and.....dog pee! ;-)
August 29, she's 17 months old and has her best show win so far: BOSS at the North Germany Winner Specialty, defeating 7 other bitches.....she now has that first, all important Specialty win as a start for next title, the ISWS Championship!
